On March 20, Wuhan University (WHU) and the University of Sydney (USYD) hosted an online academic dialogue on sustainable development organized by WHU's Office of International Affairs and USYD's China Studies Centre.
Professor Kathy Belov, pro-vice-chancellor of USYD, and Professor Yuan Yufeng, vice-president of WHU, delivered opening remarks. More than 40 experts and scholars from both universities participated, exploring opportunities for collaboration.

WHU and the USYD host an online academic forum on sustainable development.
In his speech, Yuan Yufeng highlighted WHU's academic strengths and global partnerships, emphasizing universities' pivotal role in driving innovation and talent training for sustainable development. He described USYD as a key partner in Australia and hoped the dialogue would enhance research collaboration and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
Professor Kathy Belov stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research and international cooperation in tackling sustainability challenges. She praised the event as a valuable platform for academic exchange and looked forward to further strengthening collaboration and producing impactful research outcomes.
The second session, moderated by David Goodman, director of USYD's China Studies Centre, featured in-depth discussions on four key topics: sustainable engineering and policy, environmental sustainability policy, waste management, and sustainability and human well-being. Scholars from both universities shared insights and explored potential research collaborations.
WHU's Office of International Affairs also announced the launch of a joint research seed fund to support international collaboration and academic network development.
