On March 25, Elsevier released the 2024 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list, with 116 scholars from Wuhan University (WHU) included – six more than last year – ranking the university 9th among Chinese institutions.

The honorees span seven major academic fields, including engineering, science, and medicine, across 28 first-level disciplines. Engineering leads with 51 scholars, followed by science (26) and medicine (25). Science saw the largest growth, adding four new scholars.

The scholars are affiliated with 27 departments and institutes across the university. The School of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, and the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping, and Remote Sensing had the highest number of honorees. The School of Civil Engineering recorded the largest increase, with two new scholars. Humanities and social sciences also saw notable recognition.
Ten scholars have been named on the list for 11 consecutive years, with 13 also included in Clarivate's 2024 "Highly Cited Researchers" list. The inclusion of international scholars and students highlights WHU's growing global reach and research collaboration.
