
Laurent Lafforgue talks with representatives of Wuhan University.
Laurent Lafforgue, a member of the French Academy of Sciences and the 2002 Fields Medal laureate, visited Wuhan University on Sept 26, where he was welcomed by President Zhang Pingwen.
President Zhang expressed his excitement about Lafforgue's visit and highlighted the university's rich history of Sino-French collaboration in mathematics. He discussed the achievements of the Sino-French Mathematics Elite Program and the Sino-French Joint Research Center in Mathematics, emphasizing the potential for Lafforgue's international influence to further enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly in applied mathematics.
Lafforgue praised China's significant advancements in science and technology and expressed hope for increased bilateral collaboration and exchange between France and China in the future.
His visit was occasioned by an invitation to lecture at the "Topology Theory and Its Applications" Autumn Seminar, which features presentations by six distinguished scholars, including Lafforgue himself.
