The third International Symposium on Advanced Remote Sensing, also known as the 2025 Wuhan Remote Sensing Week, kicked off on Oct 18 at Wuhan University.
This event gathered leading experts, scholars, and industry representatives of remote sensing to explore advancements in equipment, theories, and methodologies. Participants exchanged insights into the latest industry developments and collaborated on strategies for future growth in remote sensing.
Lena Halounova, president of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), highlighted remote sensing as a vital link connecting experts worldwide to tackle global challenges. She praised Chinese scholars for their significant contributions to the field and advocated for expanded international collaboration.
Zhou Wei, vice-president of Wuhan University, underscored the university's success in fostering interdisciplinary integration and nurturing innovative talent. He proposed three key initiatives: promoting shared development, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthening international cooperation.
The ceremony also celebrated the 12th "Outstanding Alumni of the School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering, Wuhan University" awards. Gong Jianya, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented honorary certificates to the recipients.
Prominent speakers included Lena Halounova, Gong Jianya, Yue Qingrui (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Daniel Rosenfeld (Academician of the European Academy of Sciences), and Sergey Bartalev (Professor at the Russian Academy of Sciences Space Research Institute).
The symposium featured five sub-forums focused on remote sensing science, detection technology, information engineering, application technology, and systems engineering.
The event also included the 2025 Seminar on Geographic Information Development and Security, the 2025 International Advanced Workshop on Spatial Statistical Techniques, and the 12th Wuhan University Remote Sensing Alumni Day.
