November 3, 2025

Scholars and experts from around the world attend the International Forum on Chinese Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts 2025.

The International Forum on Chinese Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts 2025 was recently held at the University of Chicago's Hong Kong campus.

The forum brought together nearly 40 experts and scholars from China, the United States, the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea to share their latest findings and discuss complex issues.

The forum's theme was "Research on Newly Unearthed Warring States, Qin, and Han Bamboo Slips", featuring eight academic sessions and 33 paper presentations.

Scholars introduced newly published bamboo slip materials and discussed a wide range of topics, including the interpretation and organization of Warring States and Qin-Han bamboo texts, historical, philosophical, administrative, judicial, and technical studies, as well as the physical characteristics of the manuscripts and methods of text retrieval.

Key focus areas included the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips, Anhui University Bamboo Slips, Wangjiazui Slips, and Hujia Caochang Han Slips, which contain Warring States and Qin-Han classics, as well as the administrative and judicial systems reflected in the Liye Qin Slips, Zoumalou Western Han Slips, and Zhangjiashan Han Slips.

Notable contributions included papers from Wuhan University's Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts Research Center by scholars such as Chen Wei, Li Tianhong, and Liu Guosheng.

The forum was established in 2006 by Professor Chen Wei and Professor Edward L. Shaughnessy from the University of Chicago. Since then, it has become a recurring international academic conference, previously held in Wuhan, Hong Kong, Taipei, among other locations.
