May 6, 2026

Francois Balumuene, the ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in China, and Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba, president of the University of Kinshasa, visited Wuhan University (WHU) on April 27, meeting with Yuan Yufeng, WHU’s vice-president, and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration.

Yuan emphasized WHU's role in applying advanced research achievements in Africa, particularly in hybrid rice cultivation, efficient water resource management, major disease prevention and control, public health, and remote sensing. He expressed optimism that this partnership would expand into broader academic fields, including public administration.

Balumuene highlighted the potential for establishing an in-depth, practical cooperative relationship, encouraging more Congolese students to pursue their studies at WHU.

Kayembe Ntumba expressed a desire for substantial collaboration in fields such as engineering, medicine, and management.

The delegation also visited WHU’s School of Political Science and Public Administration and Hospital of Stomatology, discussing human resource training, South-South cooperation, and dental medicine collaboration.

Congolese students at WHU are enrolled in programs such as Software Engineering, International Law, International Relations, Clinical Medicine, and International Economics and Trade.
