Wuhan University hosts academic week event in Sydney

Scholars from China and Australia gather at the sixth Overseas Academic Week held from May 15 to 18 in Sydney, Australia.

Wuhan University (WHU) held its sixth Overseas Academic Week from May 15 to 18 in Sydney, Australia, aiming to further deepen international academic exchange and cooperation as well as promote interdisciplinary dialogue and cultural exchange.

More than 40 experts and scholars from institutions, including the University of Sydney, the University of Wollongong, and the University of New South Wales, participated in the event, discussing new paradigms in humanities and social sciences research in the age of artificial intelligence.

In a speech, Lu Wei, vice-president of WHU, highlighted how AI is reshaping the logic of knowledge production and explained how WHU is advancing the development of new liberal arts by integrating its strengths in humanities with AI.

Lu expressed hope that scholars from both sides will focus on smart governance and data ethics, contributing academic wisdom to address the common challenges of the technological era.

The event featured four sub-forums on topics such as economy, language, technology, and global futures, with scholars discussing how the humanities and social sciences can respond to social realities and participate in the reshaping of societal norms in the AI age.

This event is a significant part of WHU's efforts to foster international dialogue in the humanities and social sciences. To date, the academic week has been held in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
