The Wanlin Art Museum at Wuhan University (WHU) unveiled an exhibition dedicated to the Yungang Grottoes on July 23. The Yungang Grottoes are a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for their historical significance as a symbol of ethnic interaction and integration.

Showcasing nearly 200 items such as artifacts, ancient books, and large-scale 3D replicas, the exhibition — enhanced by holographic projections and VR interactions — offers a comprehensive and immersive exploration of Yungang Grottoes art and will run until Sept 20.

He Lian, vice-president of WHU, highlighted the exhibition's role in fostering humanistic values and cultural confidence among young students, bridging the gap between campus art education and public cultural education and offering an in-depth exploration of Yungang Grottoes art.

Hang Kan, director of the Yungang Academy, underscored the grottoes' monumental status as a Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) project that has influenced both Eastern and Western grotto research.

Hang also delivered a lecture that provided a detailed analysis of the artistic nuances of the grottoes' various phases, drawing on his extensive experience in archaeology and cultural heritage preservation.
