Students attend Model UN simulations.

Wuhan University organized over 30 undergraduates for a nine-day program in Geneva, Switzerland, in July, where specialized training and practical exchange took place at the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations.

The program centered around three core themes: global governance, multilateral diplomacy, and the functioning of international organizations. To advance these studies, the program employed a diverse approach, combining expert lectures, field visits, and hands-on exercises.

At the UN Office, students participated in specialized training sessions covering the UN system, conference diplomacy and UN resolution writing skills, and negotiation skills and methods, gaining a comprehensive, immersive understanding of the UN's organizational structure, operational mechanisms, and diplomatic protocols.

Experts from specialized agencies, including the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN Office at Geneva, the World Trade Organization, and the World Health Organization, delivered lectures to help students bridge the gap between theory and practice in multilateral diplomacy.

Students deepened their understanding of global issues through collaborative group exercises at a workshop on Sustainable Development Goals.

A critical part of the program was the Model UN simulations, where 16 country positions were established, enabling students to discuss and negotiate predetermined topics.

Through multiple rounds of communication and text refinement, participants refined four clauses, honing their negotiation, communication, drafting, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

Students also visited Vieille Ville and the Geneva Museum of Art and History to explore the city’s cultural heritage.
