Wuhan University (WHU) professors Yao Liangzhong and Gu Shanqiang were honored as distinguished members of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) at the Paris session, held from Aug 23 to 28.

Yao, from WHU’s School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, is now a member of Academia Europaea and a fellow of the IEEE, IET, AAIS, and AIIA.

He has been dedicated to research in renewable energy grid integration and operational control, DC transmission, large-scale energy storage, and AC/DC power distribution systems, leading several national key R&D projects and international cooperation projects, publishing over 350 academic papers, filing over 60 patents, and co-authoring five books.

Gu, from the China Electric Power Research Institute, focuses on high-voltage technology, power meteorology, and disaster prevention and mitigation.

He has led more than 40 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and national key R&D programs, and has published over 190 academic papers, authored nine books, and holds 76 authorized invention patents.

This year's event attracted over 330 enterprises and institutions from more than 40 countries and regions, with over 12,000 attendees.
