Professor Jennifer Wen, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom and the Combustion Institute, delivered a lecture at Wuhan University on Aug 30 on critical safety issues in hydrogen energy.

Wen addressed key processes such as hydrogen leakage, diffusion, and explosion, shared the latest research advancements in these areas, and analyzed the safety risks and protective measures required in hydrogen energy applications.

She emphasized that as hydrogen energy use expands, a deeper understanding of accident mechanisms, improved risk assessment, and enhanced safety technologies are crucial to advancing hydrogen safety.

Students and faculty members also discussed key scientific issues, numerical simulation methods, and engineering applications related to hydrogen safety research with Wen.

Wen, a tenured professor at the University of Surrey and a chair professor at Sun Yat-sen University’s School of Advanced Energy, has made significant contributions to fire dynamics, gas explosions, hydrogen safety, and lithium-ion battery thermal runaway.
