A delegation from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), led by Professor Liam Smith, visited Wuhan University (WHU) on Oct 20.
The delegation was welcomed by Zhu Deyou, vice-president of WHU, with Dominic McAllister, the British Consul General in Wuhan, also present.
Zhu provided an overview of WHU's academic achievements and partnerships with United Kingdom institutions. He highlighted the university's dedication to enhancing exchanges with UK universities, citing the recent agreements made in public health and joint undergraduate and postgraduate programs as foundations for expanding cooperation.
Smith expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed LSHTM's commitment to building strong partnerships with Chinese universities. He looked forward to establishing long-term collaborations in joint student training programs, faculty and student exchanges, and research initiatives.
McAllister acknowledged the progress made since the initial exchanges between WHU and LSHTM in February. He noted that the memorandum of understanding signed in May reflects a shared vision for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and academic cooperation.
LSHTM is a leading institution in global public health and postgraduate education, with its public health discipline ranked second worldwide according to the 2024 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
Song Baoliang, WHU's executive vice-president, led a delegation to LSHTM in May, where they signed a memorandum of understanding and co-hosted the "Global Health Education in the UK and China" academic symposium and roundtable discussions.
