WHU delegation seeks further cooperation with Greater Bay Area

Wuhan University delegation visits the University of Hong Kong.

A delegation from Wuhan University (WHU), led by Yuan Yufeng, vice-president, recently visited key locations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaborations between academia and industry, foster talent cultivation, and promote technology transfer.

WHU signed an agreement with the University of Hong Kong to establish the Wuhan University-HKU Global Change and Dual Carbon Strategy Research Center, focusing on talent development and joint research.

Discussions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) revolved around artificial intelligence collaborations, a tripartite project with Xiaomi, and potential partnerships with HKUST's proposed affiliated hospital.

WHU renewed its joint PhD program agreement with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, aiming to launch a collaborative initiative in resource and environmental studies.

The delegation also visited the University of Macao and Macao University of Science and Technology, where they explored opportunities for joint research, talent cultivation, and technology transfer in fields including medicine, surveying and remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and humanities and social sciences.

The delegation gained valuable insights into the "One Zone, Two Parks" policy and project developments in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park.

They also examined the operations of research institutes affiliated with Chinese mainland universities in Hong Kong, talent recruitment mechanisms, and the commercialization of WHU's technological achievements in local enterprises.

Yuan and Sun Dong, director of the Hong Kong Innovation, Technology, and Industry Bureau, discussed utilizing Hong Kong's role as an international innovation hub and connector to foster practical collaborations in new energy, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence.

The delegation further engaged with the Hong Kong Health Bureau to discuss medical course certifications and doctor exchange programs, and with the Macao Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau to explore national affairs training initiatives for Macao civil servants.

Additional visits included the Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong.
