2nd China-Australia Global Health Education Workshop opens at Wuhan University

The second China-Australia Global Health Education Workshop opens on Dec 11 at Wuhan University.

The second China-Australia Global Health Education Workshop was held on Dec 11 at Wuhan University (WHU), attracting experts and scholars from institutions such as Peking University, Duke Kunshan University, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The event focused on key topics such as global health talent cultivation, curriculum development, educational challenges, and international cooperation.

The team led by Li Hao from WHU shared research findings analyzing the structural differences and temporal trends in global health human resources, using Chinese employees at the World Health Organization from 2015 to 2024 as a case study.

Seye Abimbola, an associate Professor at the University of Sydney's School of Public Health and founding editor of BMJ Global Health, shared insights into Australia’s advanced global health master's programs.

Experts such as Xu Ming from Peking University, Tang Kun from Tsinghua University, and Qi Xiaopeng from the Chinese CDC, presented distinctive programs and outcomes in global health talent development based on their respective institutions' explorations and practices.

Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, senior lecturer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, delivered a keynote speech on "Research Trends in Global Health Education", providing attendees with cutting-edge international perspectives.

Participants also explored critical issues such as the challenges facing China's global health education, the value of Australia's experiences, and pathways for deepening China-Australia cooperation in global health education and research.

They highlighted the current state of global health education in China, including curriculum design, practical resources, and international alignment.

The discussion also generated a series of recommendations, including developing short-term courses, integrating AI technology, establishing joint China-Australia practice platforms, and building collaborative research networks.

The first workshop was held in Sydney in September 2023, marking the beginning of experience-sharing in global health education between Chinese and Australian universities.
