Wuhan University (WHU) places significant emphasis on the development of Confucius Institutes. It was one of the first Chinese universities to establish Confucius Institutes and to engage in international Chinese language education.

Currently, WHU co-manages three Confucius Institutes with its international counterparts, namely Confucius Institute at Paris Cité University in France, Confucius Institute at Metropolis Ruhr in Germany, and Confucius Institute at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom.

Over the years, these three institutes have not only become important centers for local communities to learn about and understand Chinese culture but have also played a crucial role in fostering academic and research collaborations between WHU and its partner universities abroad.
