Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (RHWU), also known as Hubei General Hospital, was founded in 1923. Throughout its century of existence, the hospital has followed its core mission, "All for People's Health", reflecting an enduring commitment to public welfare and excellence in medical care.

Spanning multiple campuses, including Shouyi, Guanggu, and Hongshan, RHWU is home to 127 specialized departments covering all facets of modern clinical medicine, cementing its reputation as one of China's leading medical institutions. It provides medical care for outpatient visits of up to 5.8 million every year, ranking 8th nationwide, and boasts nearly 7,000 hospital beds, placing it 5th nationally.

As the First Clinical College of Wuhan University, the hospital hosts a postdoctoral research station and offers doctoral and master's programs in clinical medicine and related disciplines, including biomedical engineering, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, and nursing. Each year, the hospital trains more than 800 undergraduate medical students, 1,200 doctoral and master's candidates (including international students), 1,400 resident physicians and 600 advanced trainees. RHWU has a distinguished reputation for research and innovation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it ranked 3rd globally among hospitals for technological contributions. The hospital ranks 15th nationally for SCI publications, 4th globally for cardiovascular medicine research activity, and 4th in China for indexed scientific papers.

The hospital's research teams have achieved significant breakthroughs, including identifying key causes of Alzheimer's disease, developing early diagnostic methods for Parkinson's disease, and creating the world's first AI system for endoscopic quality improvement, "Endoangel", establishing China as a global leader in medical AI.

In September 2024, RHWU launched the world's first medical remote sensing satellite, the "Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University Health Satellite". Successfully placed in orbit, this satellite is designed to monitor environmental factors influencing human health and supports applications in infectious disease tracking, public health prevention, and medical diagnostics. By integrating advanced technologies like remote sensing, data mining, and medical analysis, this groundbreaking project underscores RHWU's commitment to building a healthy China and advancing global public health initiatives.
