Wanlin Art Museum celebrates 10th anniversary with AI-themed exhibition

November 27, 2025

An AI exhibition will be held at the Wanlin Art Museum.

The Wanlin Art Museum at Wuhan University is commemorating its 10th anniversary with an exhibition titled "Creative Machine", running from Nov 29 to Jan 29, 2026.

The exhibition will delve into the intersections of artificial intelligence, robotics, computer art, and creativity, featuring works from 30 international artists and groups across diverse fields such as AI, generative art, robotics, and virtual reality.

The exhibition is divided into three sections: history, contemporary, and education. The history section traces the evolution of AI and digital art from the 1950s to the 1990s, highlighting pioneers such as John Whitney, known as the father of computer graphics; Vera Molnar, the mother of computer art; and Benoit Mandelbrot, the father of fractal geometry.

In the contemporary section, visitors will experience robot art, interactive AI, computer vision art, and generative art through large-scale projections and installations by renowned international and Chinese artists.

The exhibition also includes an education section that provides an overview of the intellectual origins of digital art.

A series of academic activities will accompany the exhibition, featuring international experts, including curators and participating artists. These events will facilitate in-depth discussions with faculty and students on the intersections of AI, art, technology, and ethics.

The museum has become a cultural landmark at the university since its opening in 2015, hosting nearly 100 exhibitions and welcoming over 4.3 million visitors.

The museum is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, except on Mondays. It remains open on weekends and public holidays.

Admission is free with an ID or a WHU campus card. Groups of more than 30 are asked to book at least one day in advance. External visitors must follow the university's entry procedures for non-campus personnel.
