Savoring zongzi is a traditional way to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.
Wuhan University recently celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival, which takes place on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, with a series of traditional activities, including hanging mugwort, wearing herb-filled sachets, and enjoying zongzi (sticky rice dumplings).
Zongzi, a humble yet historically rich symbol of the festival, stands out as a beloved cultural icon. Meanwhile, aromatic sachets, packed with a variety of herbs, are worn to ward off heat and disease, embodying people’s wishes for health and safety.
To promote this rich cultural heritage and blend labor education with traditional festivities, university authorities invited students to take part in an engaging game and hands-on activities such as making zongzi, and sewing sachets.
The game featured vivid images of the "Five Poisons": snake, scorpion, centipede, lizard, and toad. Students spun the wheel and used magnetic darts to "shoot" the poisons, symbolically warding them off.

The ingredients for making zongzi include glutinous rice, red dates, and lotus seeds.

Handcrafted sachets are believed to ward off heat and disease.
