WHU’s Profile Raised Home and Abroad

Wuhan University’s reputation as a strong comprehensive and international university and as a leading center for research has been driven by a reform of performance and incentive based management, leading to its rapid development and strengthening of its core competitiveness.

For WHU, 2013 witnessed a series of new achievements: 11 disciplines reached the ESI top 1%; WHU’s “985” project assessment received an excellent result; WHU’s scientific research has received among the top five universities in China in total number of national awards, while WHU received the second most awards for the humanities and social sciences; the Beidou Navigation System and Hybrid Rice Research was personally commended by President Xi Jinping; WHU scholars received more commendations for excellent theses than ever before and the celebration of WHU’s 120 anniversary received extensive media attention.

At the beginning of 2014, the Chinese alumni website ranked Wuhan University in the top five in its 2014 Chinese University Assessment Report. Recently, Spanish National Research Council Cybermetrics Lab announced its 2014 World Universities Webometrics Ranking in which WHU climbed to 120th internationally and fourth domestically.

The Spanish National Research Council Cybermetrics Lab is an independent education assessment organization responsible for editing the webometrics ranking of world universities. Currently over 20,000 universities have been analyzed and ranked according to their web presence and link visibility.
