Founded in August 2007, the Confucius Institute at the University of Pittsburgh was the first Confucius Institute in Pennsylvania. Now, the CI -Pitt has developed into one of the leading institutions offering Chinese language programs in Pennsylvania and it provides a complete set of Chinese language programs from kindergarten to grade 12 and to university. In 2010, The Chinese Dean of CI-Pitt, Xiao Ying was awarded the "Excellent Dean" prize by the University of Pittsburgh. In light of the remarkable work of CI-Pitt, the NOCFL and the Confucius Institute Headquarters awarded it the prize of "Outstanding Confucius Institute" respectively in 2008 and 2010.
