Wuhan University has currently co-founded four Confucius Institutes, namely, Confucius Institute at the University of Paris Diderot with Paris Diderot, Confucius Institute at the University of Pittsburgh with Pitt, Confucius Institute at Metropolis Ruhr with the University of Duisburg Essen and Confucius Institute at University of Aberdeen. Under the leadership of the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL) and the Confucius Institute Headquarters, WHU has made vigorous efforts in the development of the three joint ventures. The three Confucius Institutes, playing an important role in carrying out Chinese language teaching and promoting the fine cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, have not only won extensive praise among the local people, but also gained favorable comments from the local media. With the Confucius Institute as a bridge, WHU has intensified friendly cooperative relationship with overseas partner universities. In January 2010, the WHU Base of Teaching Resource Research and Development for International Promotion of Chinese was established. For over a year, we have formed a system for the International Promotion of Chinese Language, which, with the Confucius Institute as the locomotive, integrates the cultivation and store of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) teachers, the research and development of Chinese teaching resources, Chinese teaching programs, cultural transmission and academic exchanges. With all the endeavors made, WHU has contributed tremendously to the promotion of splendid Chinese culture which is going global and influencing the world now.
