On Oct. 22nd, Wuhan University held a meeting and signed a cooperation framework agreement with the national English press, China Daily, aiming at achieving mutual benefits and reciprocity for both sides.

According to the agreement, WHU and China Daily would strengthen the contact and coordination in news reporting and promotion strategy in the development; practice bases would be co-founded, in which China Daily provides internship programs to students from WHU; they would also communicate and discuss more about English teaching and talent training; brand activities such as ‘21st Century’ English speech competition would be held together annually.

In the meeting, President Li Xiaohong addressed his speech to welcome Zhu Baoxia, the Secretary-General of China Daily and her colleagues. President Li recalled his overseas life experience. He stated that China Daily had been playing a crucial role in the overseas students’ life since that time, functioning as a useful tool to keep one updated on the news back home in China and also to help the readers improve their English proficiency. He believed that with the help of China Daily, the reputation and image of WHU would be further enhanced internationally.

Zhu Baoxia, on behalf of China Daily, expressed her sincere wishes for a closer cooperation with WHU, “in the past, we have already published at least 11 articles about WHU. We are convinced that, a university like WHU with such a long history, deserves much more attention and in-depth survey. And this serves as valuable news resource for us.”

Zhu Baoxia and the Wang Chuanzhong, Vice Chair of WHU's council and Vice President, signed a cooperation framework agreement at the end of the meeting.

China Daily has established itself as the leading English-language news organization in China since its founding in 1981. It also publishes the Hong Kong, US, European, African, Asian and Latin American editions with a total circulation of 900,000.
