The Only Student Among Award Winners
The 46th conference of Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health(APACPH) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 17th to 19th . Shuai Yuan, an undergraduate student from WHU's Public Health College majoring in preventive medicine, won Best Oral Award on the conference. He was the only student awarded at the conference.
The theme of the conference was “The Development of Public Health in Asia-Pacific Region”. Shuai Yuan, considering various risk factors which affect our health, analyzed the mental health problems (mainly depression and anxiety) that today’s university students suffer from, and explained his paper, “The Relations Between Risk Factors Against Health and Mental Health Diseases Among Chinese University Students” in standard and fluent English, arousing resonance with specialists present as well as intriguing their heated discussion. Finally he stood out from a hundred or more oral presentations, showing the talent of Chinese university students to representatives worldwide.
APACPH is an international non-governmental academic organization active in the Asia-Pacific region, well known as “APEC” in the field of Public Health. The organization which now consists of over 80 group members, has branch offices in United States, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and etc., covering more than 30 countries and regions. The secretariat of headquarter is based at the University of Hawaii in the United States. APACPH has successfully held 45 annual international academic conferences on Public Health. The conferences in 1994, 2003 and 2013 were hosted respectively by Peking University(the former Beijing Medical University), Fudan University and Wuhan University.
