On December 4th, Forbes magazine published the list of annual business figures in Asia for the year 2014. WHU’s alumnus Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi Tech, was on the list.
According to the Forbes, Xiaomi Tech dominated the Asian market with its advantage of low prices for smartphones. The company is under the leadership of its founder, Lei Jun. Low prices, powerful functions and broad audience coverage have become the trend of the development in the smartphone business. The role that Lei Jun plays in promoting the development of smartphones makes him the Forbes’ annual business figure in Asia.
The data published by IDC shows that MIUI ranks 3rd in the global market share of smartphones in the third quarter of this year, behind Samsung in Korea and Apple in the US. Furthermore, in China, Xiaomi Tech has surpassed Apple to become the largest smartphone producer. This year the sales target of Xiaomi Tech is 60,000,000, twice as much as that of 2013.
It is acknowledges that Xiaomi Tech was founded in April, 2010. It is a mobile internet company focused on developing smart products independently. ”Born to be fancy” is its product concept. As a pioneer, it created the pattern of development and improvement of the mobile phone operating system by the joint effort of fans from the internet.
Lei Jun graduated from the Computer School of Wuhan University in 1991. He is the chairman of King Software Cooperation and the CEO of Xiaomi Tech. In 2012 he was awarded the Rookie Prize of the Chinese Economic Annual Figure and in the following year he was nominated for the Chinese Economic Annual Figure.
Lei Jun had just returned to WHU to join the celebration of WHU’s 121th birthday. On this occasion he gave a lecture and shared his dream of creating a top and influential enterprise that began in WHU. At last, he encouraged WHU’s students to be both ambitious and arduous to make good use of every opportunity.
