Second Visit for Further Discussion on WHU-Duke Institute

Larry Carin, Vice Provost of Duke University revisited Wuhan University this August , together with Professor Gao Haiyan, Vice Chancellor for Academic affairs of Duke Kunshan University. It was their second time here following an initial visit in March, which had dealt with the research realms and the Joint Academic Committee of WHU-Duke Institute.

In order to elaborate the details of the WHU-Duke Institute, the guests were invited for discussions with Professor Li Jiancheng and Professor Li Fei, Vice Presidents of Wuhan University. Representatives from Office of Science and Technology Development and Office of International affairs also joined the meeting.

Li Jiancheng expressed that WHU and DUKE should deepen the cooperation in matters of research for better connection between scholars and WHU would join in with a start-up contribution to the research fund, while providing intellectual support for Duke Kunshan University.

According to Carin and Gao, a lot of WHU scholars demonstrated great interest and high expectation for the impending joint research in the WHU-Duke Institute and some of WHU scholars had even drafted detailed research proposals.

It is reported that conferences on the collaboration with the Chinese scholars will be held in DUKE on Sept 18th. Four scholars will be invited to WWHU where Duke Day will be held on Oct 14th. Special events such as lectures on research topics and discussions between university and industry leaders will also be on the agenda. WHU Students, working on big data research, are going to be invited to continue their studies at DUKE next summer.
