From 23th to 24th April, The 13th University Tennis Group Tournament of Hubei Province was held in Wuhan University of Technology. Team WHU defeated Wuhan Institute of Technology in the final with the score 3:0, and claimed the men’s champion of Series A again after 2014. The women’s team won 4th place in the competition.
Nearly 15 universities and more than 100 competitors participated in this Tennis Group Tournament. On 23th April, WHU team encountered Nanchang University College of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences, and Hubei University of Technology in the group game. Although the matches were interrupted several times by the rain, our players overcame the contingencies and defeated all the rivals. Wu Yicong, though new on the team, displayed deft skills on tennis courts. After the one-hour rain delay, he made a streak of errors and was caught up with by the rival soon, At the juncture, he regained his composure and ended the game gloriously with score 6:2. “It’s always tough to play games in rain. My teammates encouraged me, and told me to spare no effort to stay concentrated.” Wu said after the match The team eventually advanced to the final with the first ranking in the group game.
On 24th April, Team WHU encountered Wuhan Institute of Technology in the final. Faced with the challenges, Wu Yicong and Deng Jingfu were assigned to play singles, as Tang Feng and Wei An played doubles. After one-hour’s battle, they defeated their opponents, with the score 6:1, 6:3 and 6:3 respectively.

“Last year, we lost in the final. We’ve been waiting for this revenge for so long!” Said Tang Feng, who has been a key player in this team for 4 years, with great excitement. In addition, Deng Jingfu, the captain, admired every player in this team, “We practiced hard every week, and fought for every single point on the court today. Our efforts paid off. We deserve this champion!” He said.

There is always a powerful and strong support behind a successful team_the coach. Team WHU is no exception. Li Jing, who has won a bronze medal in the Asian Games, has been the coach of WHU Tennis Team for 10 years. “They played incredible tennis matches these days, I feel happy for them, and proud of their unity and energy.” Miss Li said with a smile on her face. Meanwhile, students expressed their gratitude towards the coach, “As our great coach, she instructs us to practice and play. As our friend, she is always having fun with us. Sometimes she even sacrifices her private time to accompany us.”
When it comes to future goals, the whole team spoke with one voice, “Of course we will come back next year and defend this title!”
The tournament has been held for 13 years. Wuhan University won the men’s team title of Series A in 2009, 2011, 2014 and this year.
