Recently Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University shared the protection and treatment experience with the United States, Italy, Brazil, Canada, France, Kenya and other countries, passing on confidence and strength to them through practical actions.
Renmin Hospital of WHU has mobilized all its personnel and material resources in the fight against the disease, with a total of 3,000 new beds and a total of nearly 5,000 COVID-19 patients being received and treated. Zhongnan Hospital of WHU took over COVID-19 designated hospitals including Wuhan No.7 hospital, Wuhan Keting Makeshift Fangcang Hospital and Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital. In view of the different characteristics of symptoms of COVID-19 between patients in France and China, Zhongnan Hospital shared their experience.
Georges Pompidou European Hospital is among the earliest hospital in France to contact COVID-19 patients, and feels it hard to deal with in the face of COVID-19. Doctors of 12 professions including the Respiration and Intensive Medicine, Emergency Treatment and so on, had video communication with professor Zhao Yan, Li Zhiqiang, professor of Neurosurgery, Peng Zhiyong, professor of Critical Care Medicine, Cheng Zhenshun, professor of Respiratory and Critical Care.

On March 13rd, a meeting for top medical experts from China and the United States to share their experience in fighting the epidemic was also held by video. Peng Zhiyong, director of ICU from Zhongnan Hospital of WHU, Cao Bin, Vice President of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Zhang Wenhong, director of infection department from Shanghai Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, as well as scientists from Harvard University, Columbia University, Washington University School of Medicine, director of ICU, respiratory and infection departments and deans from 100 top American hospitals, more than ten CDC staff, former majority leader of the United States Senate and chairman of the Public Health Committee, etc., nearly three hundred people in total, participated in the online video communication.
Experience sharing meeting between China and the US
The nearly 2-hour meeting covered many aspects of COVID-19, including diagnosis, treatment of ICU patients, self-protection of doctors, use of antiviral drugs, hospital management during the outbreak, etc.
Peng Zhiyong's team mainly treated critical COVID-19 patients, more than 72% of whom needed invasive mechanical ventilation, i.e. invasive intubation, and half of them switched to ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) artificial lung. Knowing that the rescue success rate of Peng's team reached 80%, and the recovery success rate of patients rescued by ECMO reached 50%, American experts raised their thumbs.
