Neuroscience and behavioral science: newly added ESI top1%! ——WHU has now scored the 7th place in Chinese mainland

The latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI), released on March 12 by Clarivate Analytics, has ranked Neuroscience and behavioral science of WHU among the top 1% of ESI, witnessing the entry of WHU’s 18th discipline into ESI top 1%. In all the indicators, WHU ranked 304th in the world and 7th in Chinese mainland.

WHU has a total of 18 disciplines listed in the global rankings by far, including Agricultural sciences, Biology and Biochemistry, Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Engineering, Environment, Geosciences, Immunology, Materials Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, Molecular biology and genetics, Neuroscience and behavioral science, Pharmacology, Physics, Plant and Animal Science, Social Sciences, General.

ESI is the abbreviation of Essential Science Indicators of Thomas Reuters technology and medical group, which is an important indicator commonly used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities and scientific research institutions. As a basic analytical evaluation tool for performance and tracking of scientific trends, it is classified by disciplines (22 disciplines in total), covering tens of thousands of different research institutions that rank top 1% by papers cited in total around the world.  

In 2020, a total number of 6581 institutions are listed in the ranking, with 291 universities in Chinese mainland, which manifests an upward scientific tendency. Due to a newly added subject, WHU ranks 7th place with the result of 18 subjects making the list. The ascending rank from 470th place in 2015 to 304th in 2020 indicates the great improvement of WHU’s academic performance.
