WHU attends the China-UK Association for the Humanities in Higher Education Executive Council Meeting 2021

On April 14, the Executive Council Meeting and Annual Conference Round-table Forum of the China-UK Association for the Humanities in Higher Education, co-hosted by Tsinghua University and the University of Exeter, were held at Tsinghua University using an integrated online and offline format. Shen Zhuanghai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, and Yang Hua, Director of the Center of Traditional Chinese Cultural Studies of WHU, were invited to attend the event online, with the participation of the relevant responsible personnel of the Office of International Affairs and the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences.



At the meeting, Shen Zhuanghai pointed out that WHU, as the founding university of the association, has been actively participating in alliance activities and undertaking related work. WHU agreed with the executive board’s discussion on the development of the alliance mechanism, the construction of academic committees, and Fudan University’s hosting of the 2022 academic forum. WHU will host the annual forum of the association in 2023, the 130th anniversary of the founding of WHU, when distinguished guests from China and the UK shall meet on the beautiful Luojia mountain.


After the executive board meeting, the Round-table Forum opened with the theme of “Reimagining Global: University”. Dr. Gao Hao from the University of Exeter, Sun Youzhong, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Wang Shuying, Associate Vice President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Graeme Earl, Associate Dean of International Affairs, King’s College London, spoke on the topics of “The importance of cross-language, cross-border, cross-cultural academic research”, “The important role of universities in building a global community”, “How humanities education shapes the future of universities” and “The digital development trend of universities” successively. The follow-up forum hosted by the University of Exeter will be held in mid-May this year.


The China-UK Association for the Humanities in Higher Education, established in 2016, is a joint initiative of 12 Chinese and UK universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Oxford, the Needham Research Institute of Cambridge, the Asian-African College of the University of London, King’s College London, Reading University, Manchester University, Warwick University and WHU. It aims to enhance, consolidate and develop academic and cultural cooperation between Chinese and UK universities through cross-cultural dialogue and cooperation in the field of humanities and humanitarian education.
