The 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject was released on 27th February, covering a total of 48 disciplines. Ranking 257th in the QS World University Rankings, Wuhan University was rated top 300 in 26 subjects, increasing by 6 subjects compared to last year.

Among all these 26 subjects, Wuhan University ranked top 50 in 3 subject areas: Engineering Mineral & Mining, Dentistry and Library & Information Management. Library & Information Management ascended top 50 for the first time.
Library & Information Management from the School of Information Management of Wuhan University has made significant progress in this ranking. This major cultivates the ability in information management, systemic thinking and information system design, which qualifies students to work in administrative departments, industrial and commercial enterprises, financial institutions, scientific research units, etc.
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject, published annually, aims to help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field and meet high demand for subject-level comparisons. To produce the results for each of the subject rankings, four sources are synthetically considered: QS’s global surveys of academics and employers, which are used to assess institutions’ international reputation in each subject; research citations per paper and in the relevant subject, which evaluate research impact. These are sourced from Elsevier’s Scopus database, one of the world’s most comprehensive and authentic research citations databases.
The rapid improvement of subject rankings for Wuhan University presents an excellent example of the effective development in Chinese higher education. Since President Xi delivered the speech to speed up the construction of Double First-Class (World-Class Universities and World-Class Disciplines), in response to this initiative, both the comprehensive and specialized capacity was progressed promptly in Wuhan University. With those progressive results, there is no denying that Wuhan University will head for a bright and potential future.
