Microbiology: another ESI top 1%!--WHU has now 17ESI top 1% disciplines

Clarivate Analytics has recently released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) which shows that the microbiology of WHU has ranked among the top 1% of ESI, marking the entry of WHU’s 17th discipline into ESI top 1% ranking.

By far, WHU has a total of 17 disciplines listed in the top 1% of ESI global rankings. Thereinto, chemistry maintains its position in the world top 1‰; the rest 16 top 1% disciplines include materials science, clinical medicine, engineering science, biology and biochemistry, botany and zoology, pharmacology and toxicology, physics, agricultural science, environmental science and ecology, earth science, general social sciences, mathematics, computer science, molecular biology and genetics, immunology, and microbiology.

These ESI data is collected from January 1, 2008 to October 31, 2018. During this period, WHU has included 529 papers for microbiology, three of which are highly cited papers. The frequency of citations reached 5,339 times, and the average of each were 10.09 times. WHU ranks in the 446th among all the 448 institutions in the top 1%.  

A total number of 5,870 institutions are listed in the ranking, 113 more than that in November, 2018. The indicators of WHU embrace a general upward tendency. The overall ranking climbed 4 places to the 342th in the world; ESI disciplines increased from 16 to 17.

It is reported that Essential Science Indicator is an econometric analysis database collecting more than 10 million records of over 12,000 academic journals by Web of Science of Clarivate Analytics. As a basic analytical evaluation tool for performance and tracking of scientific trends, it is classified by disciplines (22 disciplines in total), covering tens of thousands of different research institutions around the world.
