First Half Year for WHU Highlighted in Scientific Achievements

On July 2nd, WHU summoned a meeting to summarize scientific achievements for the first half of the year and to make arrangements for the rest of the year.

For the first half year, in terms of scientific research programs at WHU, programs applying for National Foundation totaled 1,416 and over 380 technology service agreements were signed. More than one hundred horizontal scientific research projects were conclueded. 143 scientific programs’ bidding completed the application and assessment of 2014’s independent scientific research projects.

As to industry-university-research integration and intellectual property rights, WHU have established WHU-Hebei, Dingzhou Energy Conservation and Environment Protection Institute. The project “Xuyang Rectification of Coking Gas Abnormal Emission” has got approval. By June 25th, WHU has applied 464 patents with 263 of them authorized.

With regard to scientific awards, WHU applied for six national scientific and technology awards, which all enter into the oral defense section. In light of platform building, WHU accomplished the inspection and examination of National Key Lab for Hybrid Rice, renewable application of scientific research apparatus and equipment at National Key Lab for Water Resources and performance appraisal of provincial and ministerial-level platforms.

Director of WHU’s Science and Technology Development and Research Academy, Li Pingxiang, analyzed Advices on the Improvement of Central Financial Scientific Research and Funds Management, and elaborated on how to adapt to new changes and search for new growth points. At the same time, he pointed out that WHU will strengthen organization and coordination in projects application for the second half year, improve supporting services to implement projects, strengthen management in project inspection and examination, and reinforce the auditing and supervision of funds distribution.

WHU’s Vice President Shu Hongbing said that WHU have obtained temporary achievements in science and technology for the first half year and there still exists enough room for the improvement of overall scientific and research strength. He put forward three ways: Firstly, to make greater efforts to cultivate and introduce talents and place more value on scientific and research team construction. Secondly, to attach more importance to high-quality scientific research results and draw up related affiliated policies. Thirdly, leaders of all schools and departments should devote more attention to scientific and research, encourage high-level research and create sound ambiance for scientific research.
