China’s first university comprehensive simulation rehabilitation center was unveiled at Wuhan University’s HOPE School of Nursing. The center, which combines research, teaching and rehabilitation service was opened by a gathering including the CEO of Project Hope John Howe, the U.S. Consul General in Wuhan, Li Weiming, the WHU Executive President Feng Youmei and other WHU officials.

Marcia Petrini, the dean of HOPE School, explained to the audience the goals of the rehabilitation center and its projects. John Howe praised the HOPE School for its work in the reform of nursing education and added his wish that the HOPE School of Nursing can play a leading role in rehabilitation, a growing field in China with an aging population, traffic accidents on the rise and natural disasters multiplying. Li Weiming also praised WHU and the HOPE School for playing a role in Sino-US cultural communication.

“The rehabilitation center is a model of collaborative innovation between China and America, government and non-government organizations, universities and communities. It also helps reinforce expert training and international communication.” Feng Youmei said.

When the rehabilitation center comes into service, it will work in tandem with Wuhan University’s Zhongnan Hospital and five community health centers in research and personnel training. One goal is to increase collaboration between the community and the hospital and help cope with China’s aging population.
