Its mission is to strengthen connections among alumni, foster friendships, promote the university's esteemed traditions, and contribute to the growth of alumni initiatives, the prosperity of the university, and the progress of the Chinese nation.

The association's primary objectives are:

Facilitating communication and collaboration among alumni, and between alumni and the university, while building a high-quality alumni network;

Enhancing alumni's sense of belonging and supporting their career development;

Uniting alumni to help the university become a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics;

Fostering a culture of mutual care and development between alumni and the university.

The history of the alumni association dates back to 1916, when Wuhan University's predecessor, the Wuchang Higher Normal School, established the first alumni association to organize activities for students and graduates. In the 1940s, alumni associations were also founded in major cities like Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Chengdu.

In November 1983, Wuhan University re-established its alumni association, receiving strong support from university leadership and alumni nationwide. In July 1995, the Wuhan University Alumni Association was officially recognized as a legal social organization by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Since April 2001, new alumni associations have been established across various regions, further enhancing the cohesion and impact of the alumni network.
