On Oct 17, 2020, the recruitment activity of students’ associations was successfully held on the Luojia Hill. There were 91 clubs involved and thousands of students taking part in this grand event. This is the first time that WHU held recruitment activity along the Huanshannan Road. “With clubs spreading along the road, freshmen are able to experience diverse club cultures, explore the scenic Luojia Hill without large-scale gatherings, which is in line with the demand of anti-epidemic policy. What a brilliant idea! ” Zhang Zhenyang, an organizer from the Student Association Instruction Center of Wuhan University, said.
A continuous stream of visitors comes to the activity scene
Dotted with colorful tents among the forests, Huanshannan Road looks like a belt surrounding the verdant hill. At the entrance, earnest staff reminded participants to show their health QR code and checked every student’s temperature before they accessed to the site. However, these strict procedures didn’t weaken students’ enthusiasm. In less than 30 minutes after the event started, 1500 “passports”, which were designed for the punch-in games, had already been given out to early birds. The staff had to print another 1000 copies for the rest of students.

The Student Association Instruction Center of Wuhan University set a series of games on the scene to make the activity more interesting. At the entrance, participants can take photos with special posters and photo frames designed for this activity. At the end of their journey, a signing wall was waiting for students to write down their mottoes or expectations. Besides, people who finish all the games including brain teasers, rope skipping, history Q&A and so on, can get four stamps on their passports, with which they can receive a present and get an opportunity to draw a lottery.

For recruiting more new blood, club members of different organizations came up with different ideas. Without a formal stage, Associations of Original Music, Guitar, and Harmonica brought their microphones and loudspeakers and presented an audio feast for the audience. Members from Ping-pong Association built a micro table to attract more newcomers to compete. Chess Association placed several boards for participants to play. “They are excellent, and I want to join them to train my chess skills.” Xiong Liangxuan, a freshman from the Hongyi Honor College, spoke highly of players from Chess Association.

In addition to various performance and competition, some academic associations caught students’ attention by games. GENDER Association, which devotes to promoting gender equality and helping female students in WHU to discover and achieve themselves, set a ring toss game, which is very appealing.

Participants of students’ associations could attain not only improvement in their professional skills, but also love. Every autumn, Sun Fangzhou and Luoluo come back to WHU, helping organizers recruit newcomers and enjoying roller skating with younger students. “Thirteen years ago, we met in the Roller-skating Association, training and participating in contest together. After graduation, we got married.” Sun Fangzhou laughed. This year, they brought with them their 3-year-old daughter. The little girl watched her mother skating swiftly, with worship in her eyes.

Since this was the first time holding the recruitment meeting on the Luojia Hill, staff from Student Association Instruction Center of Wuhan University were nervous and make meticulous preparation. They started to check the weather forecast of Oct 17 from a week ago, and created 6 QQ groups for freshmen to get introduction of each association. “We have to rewrite the whole scheme, and scout the location several times before today. All in all, this is a fantastic recruitment activity. I’m glad we make it!” Zhang Zhenyang said proudly.
